Rev. Dr. Jayachitra Lalitha is the new Director for the Synod Christian Education Department

Rev. Dr. Jayachitra Lalitha joined the synod family as the Director of the re- formed Christian Education Department from the 1st of August 2017.  She comes with a rich experience of theological education for the last thirteen years.  She grew up in faith formation and accompaniment from the South Kerala Diocese (the present Kollam-Kottarakara Diocese) and her deacon ordination is from the Karnataka Northern Dioceses, where her husband is also an ordained minister. She completed her Bachelor of Divinity (B. D.) from the Union Biblical Seminary, Pune (2000), MTh in New Testament from the United Theological College, Bangalore (2013) and DTh in New Testament from the Federated Faculty of Research in Religion and Culture, Kottayam (2012).  She formerly served on the faculty of the Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur (2003-2006) and the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, Madurai (2009-2017). As a nationally and internationally acclaimed Biblical scholar and feminist theologian, she has presented research papers in various reputed theological conferences. 

She was the co-chair of World Christianity Group of the American Academy of Religion for three years (2010-2013) and organized seminars at the annual conferences in San Francisco, Chicago and Baltimore (USA).  She actively contributed to the theological development programmes of World Council of Churches, Council for World Mission, World Council of Reformed Churches, Christian Conference of Asia, National Council of Churches in India across fifteen countries. 

Prof. Jayachitra is the author of “Re-reading Household Relationships Christologically. Ephesians, Empire and Egalitarianism”. She is the co-editor of “Evangelical Postcolonial Conversations: Global Awakening in Theology and Praxis” and “Teaching all Nations: Interrogating Matthean Great Commission and In God’s Image, vol. 35, no.2 (Journal of Asian Women’s Resource Centre for Culture and Theology). She has also about twenty-two articles published in her name in various reputed theological journals and edited volumes. 

Rev. Jayachitra is married to Rev. Dr. Rohan Gideon, who is on the faculty of Theology at the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, Madurai.  Their son Pranay is in high school, who loves music, painting, and magic.
