The Youth Department has planned to organize a Student Chaplaincy Orientation Program along with the Youth Department Committee meeting at CSI centre on 14th and 15th June 2017. This will be the intervention of MITHRA among CSI students who study in CSI institutions of various dioceses

Over the past few years, it is observed that the education institutions are becoming only mere hubs of academic research and a ‘student labour productive agency.’ The educational Institution instead of being a ‘Home away from Home’ for the students are caught up in producing more graduates for the needs of this market-oriented society. Increasing academic stress and pressure are leading students into many risk-behaviours like addiction and abuse. Youngsters unable to handle peer pressure are always at the risk of getting into high-risk behaviours and thus ending their career and even their lives.

The culture of violence and hatredness instilled by media and the political and other fundamental and communal fringes of the society are always targeting the students for their own gains to absorb them into their ideological strands and thus pushing their agendas among the student community and using their strength and voice for their own in the public sphere of life has also been noticed lately.

The influence of social media and addiction to it is making the student community more individualistic and ‘idle’ by not participating in the community life of the college.

The trained professionals who are involved in imparting education are not able to focus on the holistic development of the student community because of their high demanding academic targets to reach, thus only being more focused on the banking system of education.   Therefore the Synod Youth Board, with the consent of the Officers of the Synod felt the need to initiate the Student Chaplaincy Ministry among the 40 educational institutions of CSI.
