Consultation on Principles for Child Friendly Churches
A one day consultation on Principles for Child Friendly Churches was held on 25th April 2016 at CSI Christ Church, Kancheepuram, Diocese of Madras jointly organized by CSI Good Shepherd Church, Thiruparithikundram. 20 Sunday school children from both the Churches, whose ages ranged from 11-18, were participated as delegates. This consultation was an initiative of World Council of Churches and UNICEF. The consultation started with a praise and worship led by Rev. Francis, Presbyter CSI Christ Church, Kancheepuram.
Rev. K. James Cecil Victor, Director, CSI Pastoral Concerns was the Facilitator for the consultation who explained purpose of the programme and gave an exercise to help the children know their RIGHTS, NEEDS and DESIRES, which is found in the guide for consultations with children and adolescents on Principles for Child Friendly Churches. It was a new experience for many children as they were involved in group activity and shared their RIGHTS, NEEDS and DESIRES in life during the plenary session.
Rev. David Dinakaran, Presbyter, Good Shepherd Church, Thiruparithikundram explained the nature of the Church, Children’s perception and expectation from the church and initiated a group activity in which children were able to share their real experience in the church and her ministry. He also shared few thoughts on Children and Environment issues.
In the post lunch Mrs. Aruna Stephen Volunteer, CSI-SEVA along with Mrs. Glory Thomas, Programme Executive, CSI-GEET took session on Child Rights, Health and Hygiene. The program came to an end with a closing prayer and benediction by Rev. Francis, Presbyter CSI Christ Church, Kancheepuram.
