“Mission Moves” Team Visits the Church of South India

The Basel Mission German Branch (BMDZ) and the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) are celebrating the 200th anniversary of Basel Mission under the slogan “Mission moves”. As a part of the celebration, EMS has been arranging team visits to Ghana, India, Indonesia and Germany during 2015-16. The EMS team visit took place in India during 2nd to 12th October 2015.

The EMS Team Visits are designed to emphasize the element of strangeness. For this reason, the Teams are deliberately not composed of persons who already know the hosting churches well. The Team is looking for first impressions which can lead to new insights. The Team to India comprised of following persons:

The Team also visited the Karnataka Theological College, Mangalore, and other institutions run by KACES. On 8th and 9th October, the team actively partook in the International Seminar on the theme “Mission Moves” arranged in connection with the bicentenary celebration of Basel Mission by the Karnataka Southern Diocese. Four of the members of the team participated in the panel discussion and expressed their views on “mission moves.”

On 10th October, the team visited the Children Homes in Kannur and Chombala, and Nettur, the first Basel mission station in Kerala. On 11th, the Team became a part of the Grand Finale of the bicentenary celebration of Basel Mission organized by Malabar Diocese at Kozhikode.  The Team also had an opportunity to have a session with the Moderator of CSI, the Most Rev. Dr. G. Dyvasirvadam, and the General Secretary of CSI, Rev. Dr. D.R. Sadananda, and discussed the mission and ministry of the Church in India.

In the evaluation session on 12th October, every member of the team expressed their exciting experience in India as a witness to how the “mission moved” from the missionary times of 19th century to the present time of CSI and continues to “move” to the future. The Team expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the CSI and its leadership for providing them a moving exposure to the mission and ministry of the Church.
